Nienke Hagenbeek

Nienke Hagenbeek (1973) has been active for years in the field of promoting gender equality in the Netherlands. Not only in a general sense, but also especially with regard to addressing the inequality in health care and drawing attention to the differences in research, diagnosis and treatment for men and women. First from her role as Director of Finance, Strategy & Operations at WOMEN Inc, an advocacy organization for women. For example, she was at the cradle of the creation of the Gender & Mental Health Alliance. And now as treasurer of the Foundation of the Alliance for Gender & Mental Health – IAWMH NL.

Since 2021, Nienke has been working as Chief Operations Officer at Stichting Het Potentieel Pakken. Here she is responsible for finance, new business, sponsoring, corporate communication and HR. This Dutch non-profit organization's main mission is to make optimal use of everyone's potential on the Dutch labor market. Especially in the care sector, we see that there are large staff shortages, and that many female care workers work here in small part-time jobs. Research by Het Potentieel Pakken shows that 30 to 40% of employees are open to a more hours contract. If women who are currently working in healthcare would work an extra 1 hour, then all shortages in the Netherlands would be solved.

Through an innovative change approach, Het Potentieel Pakken works together with healthcare institutions and care workers to realize this contract extension. With advantages for the employer and for the female care workers. Those who work more hours also accrue more pension, have more chances of promotion and increase the chances on the labour market. In this way, we contribute to the financial independence of women in the Netherlands and stimulate the optimal use of the available labor potential among women.
